The history of our bakery
Four generations of homemade baking
In 1951, John Pappas and his family came from Greece to America by boat to start their new life. By 1957, John opened what is now known as Geddes Bakery. The bakery got its name from the town of Geddes, where it had originated in the city of Solvay, NY.
In 1963, John moved the bakery from Solvay to the city of Syracuse, and the new building was built at 1830 Teall Avenue on the Syracuse north side. Geddes Bakery continued doing business out of the Teall Avenue location for over thirty-seven years.
In 1986, Vasilios Pappas, John’s son, took over the business and continued operating out of the Teall Avenue location. Two years later, in 1988, John Pappas passed away, leaving the responsibilities of continuing the family business and the tradition of offering quality baked goods and fresh breads to Vasilios.
In June of 2000, Vasilios built a beautiful new bakery in North Syracuse, NY. The bakery is now run by Vasilios’ three children and continues to bring the freshest, most delicious, and finest quality treats and breads to you in the tradition of their grandfather and father before them.
